National Waffle Day!

What did you have for breakfast this morning? Cereal? Eggs and sausage? Yogurt? Well if you had any of that, you missed out on celebrating National Waffle Day! You read that correctly; today is National Waffle Day. The "holiday" marks the anniversary of the first U.S. patent for a waffle iron, which Cornelius Swarthout received on August 24, 1869.

Now we know that Cherrybrook Kitchen's allergen-friendly and gluten-free Pancake & Waffle mixes weren't around 141 years ago for that first waffle iron, but we can't think of a better way to celebrate National Waffle Day than by using your modern-day waffle iron to cook up a fresh batch of waffles without having to worry about your food allergies. School's out....'til September

It may still be hot and humid where you live (like it is here in Massachusetts) but school will be back in session in as little as two weeks from now.

Preparing to turn the calendar over to September means preparing for the return of children to local public schools, private high schools, and colleges and universities. FAAN has updated their Fo od Allergy Action Plan for the 2010-2011 school year and this form is incredibly important for any student with food allergies. This form should be filled out and given to school nurses, administrators, or anyone else who could be a first responder to an allergy emergency. These individuals must be given proper information about your child's specific allergies and how to react, including the correct use of injectible epinephrine (EpiPen, Twinject, etc.).

At Cherrybrook Kitchen, we are doing our part to make the lives of food allergy sufferers and their families at least a little easier (and tastier!). However, you can never be too prepared, especially when your child's critical needs may become lost with the hectic environment that is present with hundreds, if not thousands, of other students.

So while you're stocking up on pencils, lunch boxes, and backpacks, be sure to take ten minutes to fill out this form. Not only will the school appreciate not having to scramble for this information when they really need it but it will give you one less thing to worry about.

Luke's 1st Birthday!

Jennifer's Story:
In Late September we found out that our 2nd child Lucas is allergic to Egg, Wheat, Milk and Peanuts. My first thought was "what is he going to eat?" What do you feed a kid with such a restricted diet? Surley there is nothing with any flavor. I began to think of things he could not eat instead of what he could eat. I thought about his upcoming birthday, he wouldn't even get to enjoy cake on his own birthday!! Thats where you come in Cherrybrook Kitchen. You and your wonderful gluten free chocolate cake mix and vanilla frosting. Luke had his cake and ate it too! I just want to say you are not only putting out a safe product for people with food allergies. You are helping Families to make happy memories.

Our middle son is anaphylaxis to dairy protein, egg, peanut, and tree nuts. I had such a hard time making cakes before we found your mixes. They would crumble or just taste a bit different. It got to the point that our extended family started asking which one was Hayden's cake and then they would choose the other. I wanted everything at his birthday to be Hayden friendly. Then we found your mixes! So handy to keep in the cabinet and make the night before a friend's party to tote our own cupcake. And best of all, my extended family gives your mixes RAVE reviews also! Our daughter Rylie's 2nd birthday party was on June 28,2008. She has had a milk allergy since she was 6 months old. This was our 2nd year using CBK products to make her birthday cake. It was so delicious, and she loved it, we have pictures with her face completely in the cake! I used food coloring to dye the frosting mix orange for her "nemo" cake, and it worked perfectly. It's hard to go to parties and events and find something special she can eat, and very rarely does she get to enjoy treats like everyone else, but when she does it's great to know that CBK products are out there for us to make for her. Thank you for these wonderful mixes!

My son, Joshua, and daughter, Emory, not only share the same birthday they also both have food allergies. Josh is allergic to eggs, nuts, and dairy and Emory is allergic to eggs. As you can imagine birthday cakes were always a challenge. We lived a stint in Spain where things were even more difficult with translating ingredients. Imagine my surprise and overwhelming excitment when strolling the aisle at the grocery store after we returned to the states to find Cherrybrook Kitchen mixes! This year's lollipop birthday was the tastiest ever. Thank you so much.

Cherrybrook Kitchen represented at the Atlanta FAAN Walk

The winner of our cake decorating contest this year was Kent Nulty. The picture submitted by the Nulty family was called Whimsical Delight. Here is a picture of the Nulty family with their winning creation. Isn't it cool?

The Nulty family participated in the FAAN Walk in Atlanta this year and offered to tell people at the walk about Cherrybrook Kitchen. The CBK Gluten-Free Chocolate Cake is a Nulty family favorite, and they told lots of people about us. We are so grateful for their support. The Nulty's raised more than $350 for this charity cause. Nice job, Nulty family! Here is a picture of Team Nulty.

Cherrybrook Kitchen Loves Kyle Dine!

Last week I promised to share with you a special treat from Kyle Dine. If you don't know about Kyle Dine, be sure to check out his website. We're a big fan of his here at Cherrybrook and apparently he feels the same about us. At a recent appearance, Kyle Dine premiered a new song dedicated to Cherrybrook. Take a listen. You will also see our friend Molly dancing a jig to this new song.

The most exciting part of Expo East are all the great people that we met and the good times we had while we were there. Cherrybrook Kitchen invited Kyle Dine to join us at Expo East. If you aren't familiar with Kyle, you should definitely check him out. Kyle has food allergies and has written several fun songs about having food allergies. We invited some of our friends to come to a Kyle Dine concert at the show, and we also met some new friends at the show. Here are some pictures from Expo East.

Natural Products Expo East

This past weekend we exhibited at one of our largest industry tradeshows -- Natural Products Expo East. These shows are where we meet with grocery stores managers, buyers, and distributors to show them our products and encourage them to carry our items so you can find them in the grocery stores where you shop. When you buy from us online or sign up for our newsletter, we always ask you where you shop. This information is important to us because it helps us know the people we need to meet, and it gives us clout with the grocery store to be able to say that we know people are shopping in their store and would buy Cherrybrook Kitchen products.

We sign up for shows like this a year in advance and make plans throughout the year for what our tradeshow booth will look like. Today's pictures show you how "hands on" we are at Cherrybrook as we pack up for the show. This year the show was in Boston which is right down the road from us so we loaded and delivered everything ourselves!

Cherrybrook Kitchen was recently honored to read in "Mama Sophia's Soul Kitchen" blog that she and her daughter are fans of ours. Sophia loves to cook (noted by all the great ideas she has on her blog). While she mostly cooks from scratch, Cherrybrook Kitchen mixes are a staple in her household. A word from a FAAN Walk friend

The most rewarding part about life at Cherrybrook Kitchen is the kind notes and cute pictures that we get from you. The following note and picture was sent to us from Jan. We met Jan and Jake at the recent FAAN Walk in Long Branch, NJ.

"Jake is 4 and he is severely allergic to wheat, dairy, eggs, peanuts, fish and seafood. We started using your products on his first birthday. He loves the chocolate chip cookies, and the brownies. Richmond, VA FAAN Walk

This past weekend, Cherrybrook Kitchen participated in the very first FAAN Walk in Richmond, VA. Despite the forecast for rainy weather, almost 350 walkers turned out for this event. The rain held off for the entire morning, and there was even some sunshine to welcome the walkers at the end of the walk. Laura from CBK grew up in Virginia so she welcomed the opportunity to travel to this event so she could not only meet FAAN friends but enjoy some time with her Virginia girlfriends. Laura often talks with her friends about how humbling her job is because people are so appreciative of what we do -- it's very fulfilling to know that kids are able to enjoy a birthday cake for the first time. Laura's friends joined her at the FAAN Walk and were able to experience that first-hand. It was a fun weekend.

NFCA 5th Anniversary Celebration -- Appetite for Awareness

Last Wednesday, Cherrybrook Kitchen joined the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness in Philadelphia to celebrate their 5th anniversary. The Appetite for Awareness event furthered the mission of raising awareness and funding for celiac disease by featuring 35 chefs from some of Philadelphia's highly acclaimed restaurants demonstrating their gluten-free cooking capabilities and competing for "gluten-free dish of the year." In addition to all the other FANTASTIC gluten free food there, Cherrybrook Kitchen sampled our new Gluten Free Dreams Vanilla Graham Mini Cookie and our new Ready-to-Spread Chocolate Frosting.

FAAN Walk Boston

The weekends are busy for Cherrybrook Kitchen these days! Two Sundays ago we participated in the Boston FAAN Walk. It was a beautiful day. In addition to our usual sampling station, Cherrybrook also brought along Kyle Dine. Kyle writes and performs music about food allergies. He sings, he dances, and he educates about food allergies all at once! (You can get a Kyle Dine CD with your CBK Reward Points.) Kyle provided entertainment for all the FAAN walkers and also handed out some CBK samples with the Cherrybrook team. Here are some pictures from our fun day.

Farm Aid 2008

Two Saturdays ago, the state of Massachusetts hosted Farm Aid 2008 Presented By Whole Foods Market and Horizon Organic. Cherrybrook Kitchen was honored to be part of the Whole Foods Sampling event at the concert. We met lots of nice people and enjoyed some good music. Best of all, we were able to show our support of Farm Aid's mission to build a vibrant, family-farm centered system of agriculture in America. A couple of weeks ago, Cherrybrook Kitchen joined Sloane Miller and Worry-Free Dinners for an allergy-friendly lunch at Blue Smoke in New York City. It was the first Worry-Free event for kids, and we had a great time enjoying delicious food and even better conversation. Blue Smoke did a very impressive job with managing all the food allergies in the group, and they did a GREAT job with the Cherrybrook Kitchen Gluten-Free Fudge Brownies. It was a fun day.
