You read that correctly; today is National Waffle Day. The "holiday" marks the anniversary of the first U.S. patent for a waffle iron, which Cornelius Swarthout received on August 24, 1869.
Now we know that Cherrybrook Kitchen's allergen-friendly and gluten-free Pancake & Waffle mixes weren't around 141 years ago for that first waffle iron, but we can't think of a better way to celebrate National Waffle Day than by using your modern-day waffle iron to cook up a fresh batch of waffles without having to worry about your food allergies.
